Impaired driver knocks down live wire… and flees

A driver seen walking away from a collision scene was located by police helicopter Air1 a few minutes later.

On Friday, January 3, at approximately 9:25 pm, a 26-year-old Brock Township male was driving on Regional Road 1 near Bagshaw Crescent in Uxbridge Township when the Hyundai SUV he was operating left the roadway and struck two hydro poles. The two poles were severed and one fell across the roadway, bringing live wires with it.

A person living nearby came down to offer assistance and the driver left the area. He was seen walking northbound on Regional Road 1. At approximately 9:50 pm, DRPS helicopter Air1 located the male using thermal imaging, walking northbound on Victoria Road (Regional Road 1) near Old Shiloh Road. Ground units attended and arrested the male without incident, just before 10 pm.

Salvatore Laffan, age 26, of Thorah Park Boulevard in Brock Township is charged with: Impaired Operation – Alcohol; Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration; Fail to Remain and Drive Motor Vehicle Under Suspension. He was later released on an Undertaking.
