Durham police said a 43-year-old Hamilton male has been arrested after fleeing from police in Courtice on Friday.
On June 19 at about 5:30 pm, members of East Division responded for an impaired driver call near Highway #2 in Courtice. The suspect who was operating a silver Ford F-150 was observed driving at a high rate of speed and in oncoming traffic, police said.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect failed to stop, drove on sidewalks, ran red lights and threw an empty glass bottle towards pursuing police vehicles. The pursuit was discontinued due to safety concerns for the public, said a media release.
The vehicle was located later on King Street in Oshawa and officers attempted to block the vehicle. The suspect jumped out of the moving vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby bar. Officer pursued the male on foot and the suspect threw a chair at officers. The officers took him into custody, it said.
Kevin McArthur of Mohawk Road East in Hamilton, has been charged with: Impaired Operation of a Conveyance by Drug; Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance; Drive While Under Suspension; Drive Motor Vehicle – No Plates; Flight from Peace Officer and Possess Substance Contrary to Schedule 1 Substance (Gamma Hydroxybutyrate).
Police are appealing to any witnesses who may have captured the incident on dash cam video to contact them. Police would also like to speak to a female cyclist who was in the area of King Street and Darlington Boulevard in Courtice who was almost hit by the suspect vehicle on the sidewalk to contact investigators.
