A 24-year old male from Oshawa has been arrested for impaired operation of a vehicle after colliding with a police cruiser in Pickering.
On Wednesday, November 12 at about 3:05 am, members of West Division responded to a collision involving an Audi SUV and a police cruiser in the area of Kingston Road and the Whites Road westbound 401 Highway off ramp.
Two cruisers on the way to a call for service were making a left-hand turn onto Kingston Road from the Whites Road westbound 401 Highway off ramp when an Audi SUV traveling eastbound on Kingston Road failed to stop for a red light at the intersection, police said.
The Audi SUV slammed its brakes nearly missing the first police cruiser as it turned left. The Audi continued eastbound through the intersection at a high rate of speed, still against the red light, and t-boned the second police cruiser.
Tried to Flee on Foot
The driver of the Audi exited his vehicle and attempted to flee the area on foot. Officers located the suspect driver a short distance away and took him into custody. The suspect was found to be operating the Audi with a G1 license.
The involved officer was transported to local-area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver was released on an undertaking. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
