Inquiry into how Ontario prisoner escaped

Gravenhurst: On July 28  at about 3:30 pm it was discovered that Gordon Putnam, a minimum-security inmate at Beaver Creek Institution, was not accounted for.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) immediately contacted the Ontario Provincial Police and a warrant for his arrest has been issued.

Gordon Putnam is 56 years old, measures 168 cm in height and weighs 82 kg (181 lbs). He has a fair complexion, brown eyes and brown hair. He is currently serving a sentence of six years for Break, Enter and Commit – Theft over (x5).

Anyone who as information on the whereabouts of Gordon Putnam is asked to contact the police.

CSC will investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident and is working with police to locate the offender as quickly as possible.

CSC has given the police all information available to help arrest the inmate.

Lockdown at Collins Bay

Kingston: On July 29 at 12:23 pm a lockdown was put in place in the medium security unit at Collins Bay Institution to enable staff members to conduct an exceptional search.

The search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates. Normal operations will resume as soon as it is considered safe to do so.

Visits have been suspended until the search is completed. Visitors who have already planned a visit are asked to contact the institution directly.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is committed to preventing the entry of contraband into its institutions. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.
