K9 unit helps bag fleeing drugs suspect

Durham Police investigators have arrested a suspect and seized a quantity of drugs and weapons after concluding a drug investigation in Oshawa.

On Tuesday, May 11, investigators from the Drug Enforcement Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Unit, executed a search warrant at apartments on Simcoe Street North and Rossland Road West.

Prior to the execution of the warrant, the suspect exited the apartment on Simcoe Street North and officers attempted to arrest him when a brief foot pursuit ensued. With the assistance of the K-9 Unit, the suspect was taken into custody, said a police statement.

During the search warrant, investigators seized approximately $6,000 in cash, drugs (crack cocaine and fentanyl), drug paraphernalia, handguns and weapons.

Glenford Johnson, age 35, of Simcoe Street in Oshawa is charged with: Possession of Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Fentanyl); Possession of Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine); Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x2; Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized x2; Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition x2; Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime x2 and Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order x2. He was held for a bail hearing.
