The Municipality of Clarington has put up five condo units at 21 Brookhouse Drive in Newcastle up for sale by public tender – a process where a government entity invites people to submit bids for specific projects or services.
At the address, there is a four-storey condominium building with 78 units.
According to the last returned assessment roll, the assessed value of the land for condo units 40 and 93 on level A, is $16,000. The minimum tender amount is $11,105.55, according to the municipal notice.
The municipality also mentions three other condo units 154, 163 and 174, the combined assessed value of which was put at $3,000. However, the minimum tender amount being asked is $9,869.56.
Tenders will be received until 3 pm local time on November 4, at the Municipal Administration Centre, 40 Temperance Street in Bowmanville.
The municipality said condominium declaration restricts ownership of this unit to a person or entity that already owns a residential unit within the condominium corporation. Prospective purchasers are solely responsible for confirming their eligibility to acquire and hold title before submitting a tender, said the notice.
Tenders must be submitted in the prescribed form and must be accompanied by a deposit of at least 20 per cent of the tender amount, which deposit shall be made by way of a certified cheque/bank draft/ money order payable to the Municipality of Clarington.
The successful purchaser will also be required to pay accumulated taxes and any taxes that may be applicable, such as a land transfer tax and HST.
The municipality has no obligation to provide vacant possession to the successful purchaser.
