Lottery tickets, hotel paid for with fake credit card

Two suspects have been arrested after purchasing lottery tickets and hotel rooms with fraudulent credit cards, Durham Poline said.

On October 2, the suspects went to a hotel on Champlain Avenue in Oshawa and booked a hotel room with a fraudulent credit card. The suspects later that day went to a convenience store on Old Kingston Road in Toronto and bought numerous OLG lottery tickets with a fraudulent credit card. Further investigation by members of the Financial Crimes Unit also revealed other similar offences from August to October of 2019 across the GTA, said a media release.

Corinne Butler, age 38 of No Fixed Address, and Raymond Cannon , age 38 of Leafield Drive in Toronto are facing a combined 25 charges including: Fraud Under $5,000; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime; Unauthorized Use of Credit Cards and Posses Identity Information with Interference of a Fraudulent Offence. They were held for a bail hearing.

Investigators want to ensure there are no further victims of lottery ticket frauds in Durham Region. Anyone who has been a victim whom haven’t reported the incident to police is urged to contact investigators.
