Man held for robbing elderly man on bike path

A 35-year-old male has been charged on Sunday in connection with the robbery of an elderly man on the Oshawa Creek bike path.

On November 10 at 8 am., officers located a stolen motor vehicle driving on King Street East in Oshawa. After being stopped by police, the driver fled on foot, but was arrested after a short foot pursuit. Investigation revealed that he was the suspect in the bike path robbery.

Neil McDermott, age 35, of Brumwell Street in Scarborough is charged with: Robbery; Aggravated Assault; Possession of Property Obtained By Crime and Breach of Probation x2 in connection with the bike path robbery, which occurred on Sept. 21.

In connection with the stolen vehicle, he was charged with: Possession of Property Obtained By Crime and Fail to Comply with Probation x2. He was held for a bail hearing.
