Man stabs family member with machete

Durham police yesterday said a 36-year-old male has been arrested after stabbing a 56-year-old family member at a residence in Oshawa.

On April 6 at about 6 pm. members of Central West Division responded to a residence in the area of Adelaide Avenue West and Thornton Road North in Oshawa for an aggravated assault. The suspect who didn’t reside at the residence, confronted the family member and attacked him with a machete, police said.

The struggle continued until neighbors arrived and helped to hold the suspect till police arrived.

Officers said a 56-year-old male had serious but non-life threatening injuries after being hit with the machete. The suspect was arrested. The victim and the suspect were both transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The suspect was treated at the hospital and is facing numerous charges.

A 36-year-old male of No Fixed Address is charged with Aggravated Assault; Fail to Comply with Probation x2; Weapons Dangerous and Assault with a Weapon. He was held for a bail hearing.
