March begins with two covid deaths in Durham

Durham Health yesterday posted 42 new Covid-19 cases for March 1, taking the region’s tally to 11,910 since the count began on February 29.

Two new non-LTC (long term care) covid deaths were reported in Oshawa and Clarington. February saw a covid toll of 10. There were 45 deaths in January, 53 in December and 5 in November. Durham’s overall death toll stands at 298 with 217 of them occurring in LTCs.

There were:

  • 9 new cases in Pickering
  • 6 in Ajax
  • 6 in Whitby
  • 11 in Oshawa
  • 10 in Clarington
  • 2 in Uxbridge

Recoveries stand at 11,378 (11,326), up by 52. There are 234 active covid cases.

Nineteen cases are hospitalized with 10 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 215 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 3,429 in Ajax.

Death Toll: Total – 298              LTC – 217

Of the 99 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTC
Of the 49 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Forty-five deaths were reported in Whitby, 30 in LTC
Of the 50 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTC
Fifteen deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
24 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
Sixteen deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
No deaths have been reported in Brock
