Scugog Mayor Wilma Wotten said she was surprised by the recent announcement on Strong Mayor Powers being extended to many more Ontario municipalities.
Provincial Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Rob Flack announced that Strong Mayor Powers will be expanded to 169 municipalities, including the Township of Scugog, effective May 1, 2025.
“This announcement came as a bit of a surprise to us and our staff. We are working to review and understand the legislation. I committed early in the term of council to be a collaborative Mayor. I greatly respect and rely on the input of Scugog Council on projects and initiatives that shape our community. I am not looking to change how we work together and do not wish to create any barriers to our collaborative approach,” she said in an issued statement.
