Merck to manufacture covid antiviral drug in Whitby

The Town of Whitby  yesterday welcomed an announcement that pharmaceutical giant Merck will manufacture its Covid-19 antiviral drug in Whitby.

“This is great news!” said a tweet from the Town of Whitby in response to the announcement from Ryan Turnbull, Member of Parliament from Whitby.

“Good News for the Fight Against Covid-19: Merck to manufacture Covid-19 antiviral drug in Canada – specifically at Thermo Fisher Scientific in Whitby!” Turnbull had tweeted.

Earlier, CTV News reported that Merck Canada is partnering with Thermo Fisher Scientific to manufacture Merck’s antiviral drug molnupiravir at a facility in Whitby, for distribution to global markets. It said the report was based on a Merck announcement.
