Motorcyclist extracted from under crash vehicle

Durham police yesterday said three people were rushed to hospital over the weekend as a result of separate collisions in Durham Region.

On Friday, August 14, at about 5:30 pm, a vehicle struck a motorcycle from behind on Osborne Street in Beaverton. The motorcyclist was pinned under the vehicle and had to be extracted. The 52-year-old motorcyclist from Beaverton was taken to hospital in Orillia with multiple non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle, a 30-year-old Beaverton man, was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act, said a police statement.

On Saturday, August 15, at around 3:15 pm, East Division officers were flagged down by paramedics after two dirt bikes collided head-on on a trail in the Ganaraska Forest in Clarington. The collision occurred near Boundary Road and Cold Springs Camp Road and involved a 14-year-old male from Toronto and a 19-year-old male from Cobourg. The 14-year-old was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre with multiple serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The 19-year-old male was taken to Lakeridge Health Bowmanville with multiple, serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
