Northern Lights were visible from northern Durham

The Nothern Lights – aurora borealis – were visible early Monday from northern Durham.

The spectacular night sky (above) was captured on camera by officers of the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS).

“Officers were out patrolling in North Division last night and spotted the NorthernLights,” said a tweet from the DRPS.

The North Division covers the townships of Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge.

It is understood that strong solar flares are causing the multi-coloured displays.

Another display was forecast for last night (February 27).
