Officer gets broken nose intervening in family dispute

A Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officer got her nose broken while another was bitten while responding to a family dispute call in Bowmanville, according to a DRPS statement.

It said on Friday at around 8:30 pm, members of the East Division responded to a family dispute in Bowmanville near Longworth Avenue and Bowmanville Avenue. The incident involved an agitated female who assaulted her family.

When officers attempted to apprehend the female under the Mental Health Act, she became extremely violent. A taser was used to gain control and she was taken into custody, said the police statement.

A female police officer sustained a broken nose, and a male officer sustained a bite wound. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The female was also taken to a local hospital for assessment and face numerous charges.
