Suspect Arrested in Stolen Vehicle with Assistance of On-Star
A 37-year-old man was arrested after fleeing from police in a stolen car in Oshawa Tuesday afternoon.
On September 10 at 4 pm, members of Central East Division responded to a report of a stolen car in the area of Cedar Street and Wentworth Street West in Oshawa. The Chevrolet Malibu rental vehicle was reported stolen from Toronto and On-Star was able to give officers a location for the vehicle. Officers located the vehicle in a lot and noticed that it had substantial damage to it.
Officers attempted to stop the driver but he drove off at a high speed. Officers pursued the vehicle for a short distance but terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns. On-Star was able to de-activate the vehicle and the suspect was locked inside. The suspect was found at Lakeview Park Avenue and he was arrested without incident.
Daniel Etherden of King Street East in Hamilton is charged with: Dangerous Operation; Fail to Stop for Police; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000; Breach of Probation; Drive While Under Suspension x2 and Operate Conveyance While Prohibited.
He was held for a bail hearing.
