Oshawa’s car seat safety clinic on September 21

Oshawa Fire Services is inviting parents and guardians who use car seats to attend its next free car seat safety clinic. It takes place Saturday, September 21 from 1 pm to 3 pm at Fire Station 5 (1550 Harmony Rd. N.) in Oshawa.

It is estimated more than 75 per cent of child deaths and injuries due to motor vehicle collisions could be prevented with the proper installation and use of car seats.

Those interested in attending the car seat safety clinic should:

  • Have the car seat(s) installed in the vehicle at time of arrival.
  • Bring the manuals for the car seat(s) and the vehicle.
  • Bring the child(ren) who ride(s) in the seat(s) to the clinic so they can be properly sized.

The next and final 2019 car seat safety clinic will take place Saturday, November 23 from 1 pm to 3 pm at Fire Station 1 (199 Adelaide Ave. W.) in Oshawa.

“If you have any uncertainty about the correct installation of your child’s car seat then why risk your child’s safety?” said Councillor Rick Kerr, Chair of the Community Services Committee.

“Figuring out the safety restraint mechanisms on newer car seats can seem daunting – but with knowledgeable help from our Fire Services personnel, you can be sure that your kids will be safer when you’re out on the road, so please take advantage of this free clinic!” said Councillor Derek Giberson, Vice-Chair of the Community Services Committee.
