22-year old motorcyclist killed after crashing into sign [video]

A young life was lost early Saturday when a 22-year old motorcyclist somehow rode into a construction enclosure and collided with a sign board.

The fatal incident took place westbound on Highway 401 on the approach to Brock Road in the City of Pickering, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

The OPP Highway Safety Division said a 22-year-old rider from Scarborough was pronounced deceased after colliding with an electronic sign board inside a construction zone just after 2 am.

It asked any witnesses to call Toronto OPP at 416-235-4981.

There was a closure at Westney Road from the time of the incident at 2 am until at least 8:30 am.

A police spokesperson said the motorcyclist was reportedly at a high rate of speed. He was ejected from his motorbike from the force of the collision.

The family of the deceased has been notified, the OPP said.

Road Closure in Oshawa

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said there was a road closure in the City of Oshawa.

The closure was on Bond Street West between Park Road North and Gibbons Street and at Gibbons Street between Buena Vista Avenue and King Street West, police said.

Thank you for avoiding the area, it said later adding that the closures were reopened.

The brief police alert did not say why the roads were closed.
