Driver dies in garbage truck rollover

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) said yesterday a 46-year-old Uxbridge male was died after a garbage truck he was operating rolled over in Zephyr.

On April 8 at about 4:00 pm, members of North Division responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Leitch Road near Uxbridge Concession Road 3 involving a garbage truck. Witnesses called 9-1-1 after finding a garbage truck that rolled onto its side on the roadway, police said.

An injured male was found lying on the roadway nearby. He had sustained serious head injuries and life-saving measures were attempted by emergency services, police said.

The 46-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. This is the fifth fatality in 2020 for Durham Region.

Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected. The Ministry of Labour was contacted and will be investigating further.
