Pedestrian struck and thrown on Taunton Road

A 55-year-old Oshawa man was seriously injured on Saturday after being struck by a motor vehicle while attempting to cross Taunton Road near Ritson Road in Oshawa.

On November 23 at 1:45 pm, officers from East Division were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on Taunton Road near Ritson Road North in Oshawa. A 55-year old male pedestrian was attempting to cross the roadway when he was struck by a southbound Nissan Altima sedan. The pedestrian was struck and thrown to the roadway, were he sustained a serious head injury. The driver of the Nissan stopped immediately and was not injured, said a Durham Police media release.

Region of Durham Paramedic Services, Durham Regional Police and Oshawa Fire Services attended the scene and provided medical assistance to the injured pedestrian. The victim was later air-lifted to a Toronto hospital with serious injuries. He is now listed in serious condition, it added.

Members of the DRPS – Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
