Police warn of ‘distraction thefts’ during holidays

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has warned residents to be careful and vigilant to ensure the “Happy Holidays” are indeed happy.

“Distraction thefts are common during the holiday season. Protect yourself and your belongings. Be vigilant. Report incidents to police,” said a DRPS advisory to the public.

As a precaution:

  • Try to carry cash and debit/credit cards separately
  • Keep your purse closed
  • Always be aware of your surroundings while using a point of sale terminal and an ATM, and while approaching your vehicle.
