Police officer held for tasering suspect… thrice

A Toronto Police Service (TPS) officer has been arrested and charged for assaulting a suspect in custody.

Constable Mehrdad Mahmodian, 51, with 11 years of service, is currently attached to 53 Division, said a TPS media release.

It is alleged that on Monday, October 7, Constable Mahmodian was working with his partner when at at 12:50 am, they were dispatched on a radio call for a break and enter in the Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue West area. There was information that three suspects had fled the area in a ride-share vehicle.

Constable Mahmodian and his partner attempted to stop the vehicle and the suspects fled on foot, but after a short chase, one suspect surrendered, said the release.

While the suspect was being handcuffed, Constable Mahmodian used his Conducted Energy Weapon (taser) – once in full deployment mode and twice in Drive Stun mode. He also kicked the suspect.

On Monday, December 9, Constable Mahmodian was arrested and charged with:

1. Assault with a Weapon
2. Assault
3. Attempt to Obstruct Justice

He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, January 4.
