Police out in force after Oshawa mayor’s call

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers were out in force in Oshawa yesterday following a call by Mayor Dan Carter asking for help in  curbing crime.

Members of the DRPS Central East Division are on foot patrols in Oshawa and they have started in Memorial Park addressing concerns from the community, said a police tweet.

It said officers were on foot patrol making sure that city bylaws were being adhered by. For example, smoking is prohibited in Memorial Park and some citizens were reminded to move to a designated smoking area as the park is also utilized by many local seniors and children.

In another incident, officers were called to a disturbance at John Street and Celina Street between neighbours. It turned out to be a noise complaint. All was resolved and officers returned to foot patrols.

While patrolling the parks and trails along Oshawa, officers came across numerous unsheltered individuals and shared some resources for local support services.

Officers visited under the John Street bridge along the Joseph Kolodzie bike path in Oshawa. Citizens were asked to remove their garbage and belongings from the path, said another DRS tweet.
