Police ‘strategically’ follow carjacker till he ‘ditches’ car

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said officers from the West Division have made an arrest after a vehicle was stolen in Ajax.

On Monday April 17 at about 5:50 pm, officers were dispatched to the area of Rossland Road East and Harwood Avenue North in Ajax for a stolen vehicle report.

Police located the vehicle, a black Toyota Camry, entering the westbound Highway 401 at Westney Road North and “strategically” followed the vehicle, said a police statement.

It did not mention what it meant by “strategically” follow.

The suspect attempted to evade the police and crashed the vehicle into a ditch in Scarborough, it said.

The suspect then attempted to flee on foot, and was arrested shortly after.

A 17-year old from Scarborough was charged, police said.
