Planned 8-hour power outage coming to Bowmanville

The Municipality of Clarington yesterday announced that on April 29 and 30, Hydro One crews will be performing critical maintenance work on a transformer station that supplies power to Elexicon Energy’s distribution system.

As a result of this necessary work, approximately 3,600 Elexicon Energy customers in Bowmanville will experience a power interruption during the night, said a municipal statement.

The planned outage is expected to begin at 11 pm on Saturday, April 29, and last around eight hours.

The municipality said to help prepare for the power outage, residents are encouraged to make arrangements if they:

  • Are on life support or require a medical device supported by electricity.
  • Have computer equipment.
  • Have an electric sump pump.
  • Have an electric garage door opener.
  • Have a security company monitoring your home or business.
  • Have smoke and carbon monoxide alarms electronically connected to their home’s power supply without a battery backup.

Scheduled power outages and interruptions are carefully planned when there is a need to repair or replace equipment with the goal of improving electricity reliability and safety, the statement said.

It said a map of the affected area is available on Elexicon Energy’s website.
