On September 3rd, Ryan Polley’s life was forever changed when he was involved in a serious motorcycle accident.
He suffered shattered wrists, a broken foot, and a fractured pelvis which left him with very limited use of his arms. Once-simple tasks like getting dressed, preparing food, and even using his phone have become major challenges.
Ryan states that while insurance covers some accident-related costs, it won’t cover the ongoing physiotherapy, occupational therapy, respite care, adaptive equipment, and transportation to appointments that his recovery will require.
He has started a GoFundMe himself to help bridge that gap. The campaign launched September 28th and has raised $2,042 so far toward a $4,500 goal, from 19 donors.

On his campaign page he writes that, “losing so much independence so suddenly has been incredibly difficult, both physically and emotionally” and, “asking for help does not come easily” to him, since he’s always valued his independence, but that he’s “determined to keep moving forward” and take his recovery “one step at a time.”
Ryan has moved out of the hospital and into respite care. “My recovery is progressing slowly but surely, and while I still have a long road ahead of me, I’m grateful for every little step forward.”
