Snow Alert: Don’t drive if you don’t have to

Environment Canada (EC) has issued a special weather statement for Southern Durham Region, saying it expects up to 10 cm of snow since last night into Thursday.

Total snowfall accumulations in the 5 to 10 cm range are expected for most areas, it said.

Snow associated with a low pressure system from Texas was forecast to arrive last night, becoming heavy early Thursday morning, before easing in intensity by morning, said EC.

“The snow will continue through the day Thursday, possibly mixed with freezing drizzle. Additional light snow will be possible Thursday night into Friday morning,” it added.

Given the timing of the snow, the Thursday morning commute as well as the Thursday afternoon commute are likely to be impacted, it said.

Environment Canada will continue to monitor the situation closely. However, Snowfall warnings are not anticipated at this time, it added.
