Spike belt used to stop dangerous driving teen

Durham Police said a 15-year-old Oshawa motorist was charged after officers deployed a spike belt to stop his vehicle.

On Thursday, October 8, at approximately 10 pm, a red Honda with stolen plates was observed driving in an erratic manner southbound on Simcoe Street in Scugog Township. The driver was driving at a high rate of speed and swerving all over the roadway. The driver lost control initially near Simcoe Street and Shirley Road and the vehicle spun out of control. However, the driver continued to drive away at a high rate of speed, said a police statement.

Responding officers utilized a spike belt to stop the vehicle. The driver once again lost control of the vehicle and hit a guard rail before being arrested. The teen suffered minor injuries.

The Oshawa male is charged with Dangerous Operation and Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000. He was held for a bail hearing.
