A man robbed a sandwich shop in Whitby on Monday night – but couldn’t get far before he was nabbed by members of the vigilant Durham police.
On August 19 just before 10 pm, a man entered the Subway location on Consumers Drive in Whitby. The suspect assaulted the employee in an attempt to grab a cellphone and then made an attempt at the cash register. The suspect was eventually successful in taking the employee’s cellphone and wallet before running out the back door.
Responding officers located the male walking on Consumer’s Drive and he was arrested at 10:38 pm. The employee suffered minor physical injuries. The cellphone was recovered.
Matthew Valley, age 18, of No Fixed Address has been charged with Robbery.
He was held for a bail hearing.
