Man literally ‘ditches’ car trying to flee from police

A suspect crashed his vehicle in a ditch in an effort to evade police after refusing to stop in Oshawa overnight.

On Wednesday, August 12, at about 2:45 am, members of Central East Division attempted to stop an alleged impaired driver in the area of Taunton Road and Stevenson Road in Oshawa. The suspect, who was operating a blue four-door Honda, failed to stop for police and fled from the pursuing officer. The officer stopped following the suspect for safety reasons, said a police statement.

The suspect drove his vehicle towards a dead end street and in efforts to evade the officers, he drove it over a ditch. The vehicle became stuck.

The suspect was arrested and police seized drugs at the scene.

Leslie Scofield, age 34, of Largo Crescent in Oshawa is charged with Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance and Flight from Police. He was released on an Undertaking.
