Alberta Esports Expo 2023 drew some of the best esports teams and players from Canada to compete. It was held between 18-19 February, 2023, at the Edmonton Expo Centre in Edmonton. The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament at Alberta Esports Expo 2023 had over 150 players fighting against each other. Gamers from Canada including Exodia, Smear, Noot, and Silver were among the toughest competitors in the tournament.

Andrew Doschak, also known as ‘Silver’ to the gaming community, gave an impressive performance during the Alberta Esports Expo 2023. He beat his fellow Canadian players like Jams, Machu, Exodia, and Marf to win the series in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Dragon Ball FighterZ had more than 22 players battling in the esports event. Marvin Mauricio, known as ‘marvtronic’ to his friends, placed first in Dragon Ball FighterZ with 5 consecutive wins. He defeated Mandible, Adonis, Vicious Zen, and others at the Alberta Esports Expo 2023. Street Fighter V, Pokemon VGC, and League of Legends were a few video games included in the esports event.

Call of Duty League 2024: Stage 3 Major

Call of Duty League 2024: Stage 3 Major was an offline esports tournament that took place at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto. The 4v4 competition had a prize pool of $375,000 with 12 of the top teams in Call of Duty being involved.

Organized by Activision and Toronto Ultra, the map pool for the esports event provided an unparalleled experience of the FPS game. Rio, 6 Star, Vista, Highrise, and Invasion, were a few of the notable maps played by esports teams in the Call of Duty League 2024: Stage 3 Major.

OpTic Texas won first place in the tournament with 100 points to win $150,000. The Canadian player, Dashy, helped his team OpTic Texas outperform his opponents during the competition. The roster of OpTic Texas consisted of Dashy, Kenny, Shotzzy, and Pred. Shotzzy was the MVP of Call of Duty League 2023: Stage 3 Major. He has won a total of $1 million from his esports endeavors.

Overwatch League 2022: Summer Showdown

Overwatch League 2022: Summer Showdown was held in September 2022. Based in Toronto, the esports tournament had 12 teams including the Toronto Defiant, Florida Mayhem, and Dallas Fuel taking part in the event.

Blizzard Entertainment was actively involved in hosting the Overwatch League 2022: Summer Showdown. A prize pool of $330,000 was announced to invite new esports teams to the competition. Maps such as, Oasis, Circuit Royal, Dorado, Hollywood, and Colosseo were played in double elimination rounds to decide the champion of the league.

Dallas Fuel placed first in the tournament and walked away with a grand prize of $75,000. San Francisco Shock placed second and won $50,000. Toronto Defiant won 3rd place in the Overwatch League 2022: Summer Showdown to earn $40,000 from the esports competition.

2024 Pokémon TCG Toronto Regional Championships

2024 Pokémon TCG Toronto Regional Championships was a PvP competition for Pokémon Trainers. It had more than 1,500 players fighting each other in the trading card game at the Enercare Centre in Toronto. The esports event had a combined prize pool of $71,000 for enthusiastic Pokémon Trainers from North America.

The Pokémon trading card games were streamed on YouTube and Twitch with several commentators pitching in on the action. JW Kriewall displayed his finest skills and Pokémon decks at the 2024 Pokémon TCG Toronto Regional Championships to win $10,000 by placing first in the competition. It was certainly one of the best performances by any esports player in Canada during the recent past.
