Thief used stolen garage opener to gain home entry

A 32-year-old man faces numerous criminal charges in a break and enter investigation in Whitby, according to Durham Police.

On Tuesday, August 25 at about 7:15 pm, members of Central West Division responded to a break and enter call in the area of Thickson Road and Burns Street East in Whitby. The suspect had gained entry to the residence after stealing a garage door opener overnight, said a police statement.

The suspect made his way into the residence and stole numerous personal items including jewelry, credit cards and bank cards. The suspect was also alleged to have broken into a parked vehicle, stealing bank cards in Whitby on August 16, police said.

The suspect utilized the stolen bank cards at numerous locations.

The suspect was arrested on September 10, 2020 and Nathan Paddock of Avenue of Champions in Oshawa is facing 75 charges, including: Break and Enter, Fraud Under $5,000; Theft Under $5,000; Use Stolen Credit Card; Possess Stolen Credit Card; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Fail to Comply with Undertaking. He was held for a bail hearing.
