Three new deaths added to Durham covid toll

Durham Health yesterday added three new covid deaths taking the December toll in the region to 43. Three of these deaths were not in long term care homes (LTCHs).

It yesterday reported 100 new Covid-19 cases for December 18 bringing the region’s tally to 6,159 since the count began on February 29. Another 111 cases are under investigation.

Two new deaths were posted for Whitby and one non-LTCH death in Ajax. Recoveries stand at 5,084, up by 25. There were 845 active covid cases.

According to Durham Health, there were:

  • 20 new cases in Pickering
  • 15 in Ajax
  • 12  in Whitby
  • 15 in Oshawa
  • 5  in Clarington
  • 1 in Uxbridge, and
  • 3 in Scugog

Thirty-two cases are hospitalized with 11 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 813 people in home isolation.

Deaths so far total 230, of which 197 were in long term care homes (LTCH).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 1,787 in Ajax.

Death Toll: Two new deaths in Whitby, one in Ajax

Of the 89 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 41 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-two deaths were reported in Whitby, 27 in LTCH
Of the 39 reported deaths in Oshawa, 31 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
