Two new covid deaths take December toll to 40

Durham Health yesterday added two new covid deaths taking the December toll in the region to 40.

It yesterday reported 88 new Covid-19 cases for December 17 bringing the region’s tally to 6,052 since the count began on February 29.

Two new deaths were posted for Oshawa. Recoveries stand at 5,059, up by 91. There were 766 active covid cases.

According to Durham Health, there were:

  • 20 new cases in Pickering
  • 16 in Ajax
  • 12  in Whitby
  • 21 in Oshawa, and
  • 7  in Clarington,
  • 75 cases are under investigation

Forty-two cases are hospitalized with ten in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 724 people in home isolation.

Deaths so far total 227, of which 195 were in long term care homes (LTCH).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 1,772 in Ajax.

Death Toll: Two new deaths in Oshawa

Of the 89 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 40 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty deaths were reported in Whitby, 25 in LTCH
Of the 39 reported deaths in Oshawa, 31 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
