New covid cases in all Durham municipalities

For the first time in months, new covid cases were posted for each of the eight municipalities of the region by Durham Health.

It yesterday reported 95 new Covid-19 cases for December 16 bringing the region’s tally to 5,964 since the count began on February 29.

No new death was posted. Recoveries stand at 5,004, up by 117. There were 735 active covid cases.

According to Durham Health, there were:

  • 17 new cases in Pickering
  • 34 in Ajax
  • 14  in Whitby
  • 21 in Oshawa
  • 11 in Clarington,
  • One in Uxbridge, and
  • Two each in Scugog and Brock
  • 63 cases are under investigation

Forty cases are hospitalized with ten in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 695 people in home isolation.

Deaths so far total 225, of which 193 were in long term care homes (LTCH).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 1,756 in Ajax.

Death Toll:

Of the 89 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 40 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty deaths were reported in Whitby, 25 in LTCH
Of the 37 reported deaths in Oshawa, 29 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
