Oshawa death takes December covid toll to 38

Durham Heath has announced one new Covid-19 death in a long term care home in Oshawa, taking the December toll 38. There were five deaths in November.

It also reported 122 new covid cases for December 15 – third highest day total – bringing the region’s tally to 5,871 cases since the count began on February 29.

Recoveries stand at 4,887, up by 129. There were 759 active covid cases.

According to Durham Health, there were:

  • 14 new cases in Pickering
  • 30 in Ajax
  • 13  in Whitby
  • 18 in Oshawa
  • 10 in Clarington, and
  • One in Uxbridge
  • 72 cases are under investigation

Thirty-six cases are hospitalized with ten in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 723 people in home isolation.

Deaths so far total 225, of which 193 were in long term care homes (LTCH).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 1,722 in Ajax.

Death Toll: One new in Oshawa

Of the 89 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 40 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty deaths were reported in Whitby, 25 in LTCH
Of the 37 reported deaths in Oshawa, 29 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
