Hammer attack man charged with robbery?

A male suspect was arrested after assaulting a victim with a hammer in Bowmanville early yesterday.

On December 15, at approximately 12:50 am, members of East Division responded to a residence in the area of Green Road and McBride Avenue in Bowmanville for an assault call.

The suspect knocked on the door and when the victim opened the door, the suspect tried to tape his mouth and then assaulted him with a hammer. The suspect struck the victim several times in the face before fleeing in a vehicle, police said.

Police searched the area and located the suspect at his residence in Courtice.

The victim and suspect are known to each other. The victim was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries, police said.

The 33-year old suspect of Clarington, is charged with robbery. He was held for a bail hearing.
