Durham Regional Police Services (DRPS) investigators are looking for a suspect after a bank in Bowmanville was robbed at gunpoint yesterday evening.
“East Division officers are actively investigating a report of a robbery in the area of Liberty St and King St, Bowmanville. There will be an increased police presence for the next while,” said a DRPS tweet.
On Tuesday, December 15, at approximately 5 :00 pm, members of East Division responded to the RBC bank on King Street and Liberty Street in Bowmanville. The lone male suspect, armed with a firearm, entered the bank and made a demand for cash. The suspect left the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Officers searched the area with negative results.
No one was physically injured during the incident.
The suspect is described as male, early 20’s, medium build, short and had a dark complexion.
Investigators are asking anyone with dash-cam video in the area at the time of the robbery to contact the Major Crime Robbery Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5355.
Eyewitnesses said they saw two police vehicles in the plaza near the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) branch.
They said they saw one of the police officers inside the bank branch talking to someone and taking notes.
