Traffic stop leads to loaded gun and drugs

Durham police  yesterday said a 24-year-old male was arrested after a routine traffic stop in Oshawa led to the discovery of drugs and a loaded handgun.

On May 1 at about 7:30 pm, a member of East Division stopped a white Nissan Altima for driving at a high rate of speed in the area of Grandview Street and Taunton Road in Oshawa. The driver was arrested after he was observed with drugs on his possession. During the investigation, officers located a loaded handgun, approximately $8,000 in drugs, Canadian currency and drug paraphernalia, police said.

Eric Ruedl of Court Street in Oshawa is facing nine charges, including: Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking x2 (cocaine, crack-cocaine); Careless Storage of a Firearm; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm; Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm and Tampering with Serial Number.

He was held for a bail hearing.
