Two held for stealing from gym lockers

Two males are facing multiple charges after an investigation concluded into the thefts of personal items from gym lockers in Oshawa and Bowmanville.

The investigation began in November last year after a wallet was stolen from a locker at the Good Life Fitness location on King Street East in Bowmanville. A short time later, the victim’s debit card was used at a nearby gas station and convenience store. Several other similar incidents were reported in December and January at gyms in Oshawa, including six reports from the Del Park Homes Centre in north Oshawa, said a police media release.

Last week, the two suspects were arrested by members of the Central East and East Criminal Investigations Bureaus (CIBs), with assistance from the Offender Management Unit. The investigation revealed that once the wallets were stolen from the lockers, the credit cards/debit cards were taken and used immediately at local stores. Some of the lockers were broken into and others were not locked, it added.

Edward Pond, age 42, of Douglas Langtree Drive in Oshawa and Troy Eagleson, age 57, of Solina Road in Clarington have been charged in connection with seven theft/fraud-related incidents. Pond is facing 40 charges and Eagleson is facing 31 charges.

Anyone with new information in connection with this investigation is asked to call 1-888-579-1520 and contact D/Cst. Barr of East Division CIB at ext. 1611 or D/Cst. Kapeluk of Central East CIB at ext. 2769.
