Two jump into car in parking lot and rob occupants

Durham Police investigators are asking the public to help identify two suspects in an armed street-level robbery which occurred Thursday night in Ajax.

On  January 2 at approximately 9 pm, officers were called to the area of Taunton Road East and Salem Road in Ajax.

A 35-year-old male victim from Ajax advised police he was sitting in his car in the parking lot of a plaza at Middlecote Drive and Taunton Road in Ajax with a male friend in the front passenger seat. Two males with their faces covered suddenly jumped into the back seat of the unlocked vehicle. One of the males was brandishing a handgun and they ordered the victim to drive, said a police media statement.

At a red light at Salem Road and Taunton Road, the driver attempted to exit the vehicle. He was punched in the head from behind and struck by the handgun. Eventually, the vehicle was ordered to stop in the area of Warnford Circle and Hanaway Drive, where the driver was robbed of his cellphone and wallet. The two suspects fled on foot, the statement added.

The victim then drove to a store at Taunton/Salem and police were called. Officers searched the area, including a K-9 team and Air1, but no arrests were made.

Suspect #1 is described as a male, South East Asian descent, 20-30 years old, 5’9″ tall.

Suspect #2 is described as a male, South East Asian descent, 20-30 years old, 5’10” tall with a medium build. One of the suspects was believed to be wearing a Canada Goose black-coloured jacket.
