Motorcyclist hurt in collision with car charged

A motorcyclist was charged with impaired driving after a collision at an Oshawa intersection Thursday night.

On January 2 at 7:25 pm, a 27-year-old male motorcyclist was struck by a white sedan at the intersection of Bloor Street West and Simcoe Street South in Oshawa, said a police media release.

Officers from Central East Division attended the scene and closed off the intersection for the investigation. The motorcyclist sustained multiple non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. The driver of the sedan was not injured and cooperated fully with the investigation.

Further investigation revealed the 27-year-old Oshawa male was driving the motorcycle northbound at a high rate of speed when he was struck by the southbound sedan, which was turning eastbound onto Bloor Street West. He showed signs of impairment at the scene and was subsequently tested after being treated in hospital, police said.

Terry McClurg-Hayden of Highland Avenue in Oshawa is charged with: Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration; Impaired Operation – Alcohol; and Drive Motor Vehicle – Improper Licence. He was later released on an Undertaking.
