A 33-year-old man is facing numerous charges after carjacking a vehicle in Oshawa and fleeing from police on Thursday.
On November 28 at 11:30 pm, the female victim was seated in her vehicle at a parking lot at Harmony Road North and Taunton Road East in Oshawa when an unknown suspect approached her and assaulted her before stealing her vehicle, said a Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) media release.
DRPS Communicators were able to get information quickly to the responding officers and the vehicle was located travelling eastbound towards Clarington, it added.
Air1 assisted officers and found the stolen SUV at a gas station on Hwy 35/115 in Newcastle. The suspect drove away and headed north to Concession Road 4 when officers initiated a pursuit. Responding officers discontinued the pursuit for safety concerns, the statement said.
Air1 continued to follow the vehicle and minutes later the vehicle was observed to lose control on a turn and flip over. The suspect exited the vehicle and continued to flee on foot. K-9 officers and members of East Division were able to set up a perimeter and the male was taken into custody.
Kyle Grieder, age 33, of Cornish Hall Road in Cobourg, is charged with: Robbery; Flight from Police; Dangerous Operation; Fail to Comply with Recognizance; Operate Conveyance While Prohibited x6 and Drive While Under Suspension. He was held for a bail hearing.
