The Downtown Oshawa BIA has announced the ‘Discover This Space’ contest which will provide entrepreneurs in Ontario a chance to win a storefront in Downtown Oshawa for 12 months.
The contest is open to all legal residents of Ontario who are 19 years of age or older and residing in the Province of Ontario at the time of submitting their entry. To apply, send your business pitch by a 1-3 minute video or by completing the application online by 5 pm on January 10th, 2020. The judging panel includes Leon Efraim, Taba Merrikh, Cindy Malachowski, and a representative from Ontario Tech to be announced. Lastly, a 2015 ‘Win This Space’ contestant and winner, Dave Tunstead, the owner of Skye’s Clothing Boutique will also be a part of the judging panel. Altogether, these judges have over 100 years of business
experience.
“Win This Space” concepts have been extremely successful in other Canadian cities and boost economic development, stimulate new downtown storefront businesses, and create jobs. Discover This Space is an initiative designed to focus in business concepts where being located in a visible storefront location provides a significant competitive advantage. The focus is on entities with a retail or professional service activities.

Discover this Space will be a wonderful opportunity for an entrepreneur to open a retail store in an energetic downtown,” says Teresa Shaver, BACD Executive Director.
The final prize includes, financial support towards a one-year lease within the ODBIA, along with complimentary business services will give the winner a significant boost to launch and sustain a business for the longer term.

This may open doors like never before and add to the revitalization of our ever-changing downtown core,” said Nancy Shaw, Chair of the Downtown Oshawa BIA Board of Directors & CEO, Greater Oshawa Chamber.
