Durham Police yesterday said a female is in custody after she assaulted a male during a carjacking in Ajax, and later committed property damage in Whitby.
On Thursday, April 4 at about 3:30 am, members of West Division responded to a stolen vehicle call in the area of Salem Road and Taunton Road, in Ajax.
The victim was delivering newspapers to a local business when the suspect entered his vehicle through the passenger door. The suspect physically assaulted the victim, pushing him out of the vehicle, before fleeing the area in the van. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries, said a police report.
A short time later, members of Central West Division responded to a break-and-enter in-progress call at a residence in the area of Fruitful Crescent and Sigford Street, in Whitby.
The suspect attempted to enter the residence but was unsuccessful. Police arrived on scene and located the suspect in the stolen vehicle on the lawn of the residence. The suspect attempted to flee the area but was unable as the vehicle tires became stuck in the grass and snow. The suspect would not comply with police commands and the vehicle windows had to be broken for entry. The suspect was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody. The suspect was transported to a local-area hospital for minor injuries, police said.
The suspect, age 34 from Oshawa was charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
