Metrolinx extra train service for today’s games, eclipse

Metrolinx, the operater of GO Transit, has announced extra train service to facilitate travel by fans for today’s games in Toronto, as well as to Niagara Falls for solar eclipse watchers.

Toronto is expected to be busy today evening with sporting enthusiasts attending the Blue Jays’ opening game and the Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Pittsburgh Penguins game.

“With record numbers of travellers expected, Metrolinx is rolling out special GO Transit services to accommodate this influx of travelers,” said the announcement.

It said on Monday, April 8, there will be special event service on the Lakeshore East, Lakeshore West, and Barrie lines to support customers travelling for the Jays and Leafs games in Toronto.  Additional express trips, adjusted schedules and replacement buses are being implemented

 These include:

Lakeshore East: Extra westbound trips will depart Whitby GO at 4 pm and 4:38 pm, and Durham College Oshawa GO at 5:25 pm and 5:55 pm. There will also be an extra eastbound trip departing Union Station at 10:35 pm.

Lakeshore West: Two extra express eastbound trips will depart Oakville GO at 5:07 pm and 6:03 pm The 10:52 pm westbound trip to Niagara Falls will also depart 20 minutes earlier at 10:32 pm to help get customers home earlier.

Barrie line: Some existing trips will be adjusted to accommodate extra late-night service for those returning home after the game.

Eclipse Watch

Niagara Falls Service: There will be special service to and from Niagara Falls on the Lakeshore West line for customers travelling to see the solar eclipse:

Two extra trips are being added to the Lakeshore West line from Union Station to Niagara Falls. Trains will depart at 9:02 am, 10:02 am and 11:02 am, ensuring customers have enough time to get to Niagara for the solar eclipse.

Trips are also being added and modified on the Lakeshore West line from Niagara Falls to Union Station. Return trips from Niagara Falls will depart at 4:24 pm, 4:54 pm, 7:21 pm and 10:51 pm to give customers more departure options.

All trains to and from Niagara Falls will be 12 cars long to provide as much room onboard as possible.
