Woman tries to defraud same bank thrice in 4 weeks

A woman from Quebec is facing charges after attempting to defraud the same Port Perry bank three times in four weeks.

On Wednesday at 12:30 pm, North Division officers were called to the Scotiabank location on Highway 7A in Port Perry regarding a customer with fraudulent identification. Officers determined the 21-year-old female was attempting to open an account using a false Manitoba driver’s licence and Social Insurance Number card.

Further investigation revealed she had just come from the Bank of Montreal branch on Scugog Street in Port Perry and opened an account using false identification.

It was also determined she had entered the same Scotiabank branch on August 29 and cashed a government cheque under an assumed identity and again on September 19 when she attempted to cash another government cheque.

Noemy Degarie, age 21, of Laval, Quebec has been charged with: Fraud Under $5,000 x2; Possess Identity Document x4; Possess Forged Document and Possess Credit Card Obtained by Crime x2. She was held for a bail hearing.
