Works on widening of Brock Road begin

Durham Region is proposing to reconstruct and widen Brock Road (Regional Road 1) from Taunton Road (Regional Road 4) to Whitevale Road in Pickering.

Tree and fence removals are required within the region’s Right-of-Way in preparation for the proposed roadworks on Brock Road. Region staff have marked out the areas of tree, branch, brush and fencing removals on site, said a city announcement.

Construction Schedule

The region’s contractor, Darlington Tree Service Inc., has commenced the removals and anticipates completing the work by May 30. Unfavorable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.

Utility relocations are scheduled to occur this year 2020 and the proposed road reconstruction is currently planned for 2021, pending council approval. An outline of the project scope is available for review on the region’s website at durham.ca/WorksProjects.

Lane Restrictions

Most of the work will take place outside of the travelled roadway and is not anticipated to impact traffic. Lane restrictions down to one lane may occur during construction and delays should be anticipated.

The region says it realizes that the work will be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly as possible.
