The Township of Brock held the official ground-breaking ceremony for the long-awaited $10.2 million Sunderland Arena Project on Thursday, September 4.
The township said this project will significantly renovate the Sunderland Memorial Arena and create a modern facility that includes:
- Accessible Ice Surface 78 x190
- 6 Dressing rooms, 2 fully accessible
- Revitalized community centre space and lobby
- And much more
It said this project would not have been possible without the following supporters:
- $5.5 million from Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, a joint venture between the Federal and Provincial Governments
- $1 million committed to the project by the Sunderland Lions Club
- $25,000.00 donated by the Foster Hewitt Foundation
The start of construction on the project that was attended by MP Jacob Mantle, MPP Laurie Scott, Mayor Michael Jubb, council, and members of the Sunderland Lions Club, who were instrumental in this project from the beginning.
“We thank everyone for all their hard work and generous donations. This renovated arena will be one of the most important infrastructure projects in Brock’s history as it will enhance recreational opportunities, health, and wellness for residents,” said a township statement.
