Between October 16 and 22, more than 10 thefts and attempted thefts to motor vehicles were reported in Whitby.
The thefts occurred in the area of Thickson Road and Kinross Ave in Brooklin, said Durham Police.
They said that the suspect has been going driveway to driveway attempting to gain entry to unlocked vehicles throughout the night.
The suspect has been captured on several surveillance cameras while committing these offences and police is asking for public help in identification.
The suspect is described as male white, facial hair, pony tail and between 30 to 40 years of age.
